Wildcats complete undefeated season with 20-6 win over Western Oregon
By DAILY RECORD STAFF
MONMOUTH, Ore. — For the first time since 2002, the Central Washington University football team has completed an undefeated regular season.
The Wildcats endured wet, windy and sloppy conditions in Monmouth to copmlete their undefeated run Saturday with a 20-6 win over Western Oregon. The Wildcats finished the regular season 11-0.
With the rain coming down hard for most of the game and the wind swirling, the Wildcats did most of their damage on the ground. They tallied 152 yards rushing on the game, as opposed to 142 through the air — and nearly half those passing yards came on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Cole Morgan to Johnny Spevak that gave the Wildcats a 13-0 lead in the third quarter.
Morgan opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown run on the Wildcats' first offensive possession, but Garrett Rolsma's extra point attempt was blocked, ending the senior kicker's streak of 99 straight point-after attempts converted. The Wildcats held that 6-0 edge until Spevak's touchdown in the third quarter, and they added another score on a Randall Eldridge seven-yard run later in the third. The Wolves scored their touchdown in garbage time, on their second-to-last drive of the game.

The Wildcat defense was punishing throughout the night, forcing two interceptions and holding the Wolves to 2-of-14 on third down conversions. CWU special teams also blocked two more kicks — one extra point and one partially-blocked punt — to give the Wildcats 13 blocked kicks on the year.
CWU awaits word on its playoff situation. The playoff drawing will be held Sunday. The Wildcats entered the game ranked No. 1 in the region, and if they hold onto that spot — they are the only undefeated team in Super Region 4 — they will earn a first-round bye and a home playoff game.
